Exploring Mid-Century Modern Design

Exploring Mid-Century Modern Design

There are many architectural styles that come to mind when you think of modern & clean but none as favored as Mid Century Modern is today! Maybe it is the all-natural lines, bold colors, or that this style harkens back to a simpler era that attracts you in, but once inside, you can’t deny, there is even more to love about this genre than you thought. At the height of MCM everything from homes, to furniture to buildings were looking futuristic even our local airport, Dulles has MCM flair to it.

Mid-century modern designs continue to flourish today because they are well designed, clean, and go with just about everything. The style is also popular because it is familiar to those who grew up with this design style in their homes as children in the 1950’s and 1960’s.  Generation X is particularly fond of MCM.

With the post-pandemic trend of moving out of cities, relocating to vacation destinations, or moving into a Tiny Home the MCM trend plays well into these modern practices as well since many Mid-century furniture pieces themselves were designed to be mobile in a post-war era for city residents who moved frequently and things still ring true today.

You can find some good examples in Northern Virginia of MCM especially in the Hollin Hills neighborhood in Alexandria, VA. Keep your eyes peeled for my newest MCM home listing coming Fall 2021.
