Don’t Let the Dogs out! And other things we say when selling your house with pets.
Don’t Let the Dogs out! And other things we say when selling your house with pets.
Since 77% of the population has pets at home, I wanted to go over tips for selling & showing your home with pets in the house. Not only do we have to take care to protect our sellers & pets from Covid but I also use a 5 point checklist to help my sellers prepare!
- Can you temporarily relocate your pet to a relatives home or a neighbors home? This will help ensure you can keep your pet safe and also be able to hide the evidence.
- If you have a dog or pet who goes outside, please pick up the poop & fix the grass, any holes, the fence and any areas worn out by your animals.
- Perform a deep clean of the house, not just your average clean but steam clean the floors and carpets, including bedding, pillows and any rugs that could hold pet odor.
- Remove any sign of a pet including litter boxes, food bowls, bins of food, toys and even personal photos.
- Smaller pets are OK to leave alone when marketing your house: small birds, reptiles and fish do not pose the same issues as cats, dogs, rabbits, ferrets & rodents.
And just a few honorable mentions of things to consider when selling your home...are you properly insured to show your home with the pets inside while you are not home? If the answer is no, consider removing the pet. If you have carpeted areas and you have tried cleaning them but they still stink then consider replacing them. If you just aren’t able to do any of these suggestions and you have to leave your furry pet at home, we can always come up with a showing strategy that blocks in appointments to avoid issues. The key to being a successful selling agent is working with your clients specific needs and developing a custom plan to make everyone happy and still get the end result of a successful sale!
